The Quiver The Newsletter of the Lee County Archers February, 2010 President’s Notes We are enclosing the range rules with this newsletter. We have been lax in the past in emphasizing these rules. The rules will be given to new members and they will be asked to sign a copy. Last week we found evidence that broadheads had been shot on one of the butts on the twenty yard range, on the eighty yard walk up, and the sixty yard lane on the new field course. The butts cost the club about one hundred and eighty dollars each and considerable work to build. One broadhead shot in one of these butts is equal to many, many shots with a target point. The only place broadheads are allowed on our range is at the broadhead pit. The original fourteen target field has been modified. The lanes will be unchanged but will be shot in a different order. The “Bunny” is now number one and then every other target will be two, three, etc. until reaching the forty-five walk up as number seven. Number eight is the eighty yard walk up and then shooting the alternate lanes on the way back, finishing at the thirty yard lane as target fourteen. The signs on the range have already been renumbered. The distance walked will be the same but this will eliminate the long walk with no shooting. On the other side of the road we are going to put butts in front of the berms for 3-D practice. The traditional shooters didn’t mind shooting into the berms but most compound shooters did not like shooting those fast expensive arrows into the berms. This Sunday is a club Field Round. We will put out a 900 target on one of our unused field lanes if some archers wish to shoot that round. The State NAA and NFAA Indoor (Outdoor) will be held on Feb. 26-28 at Ft. Lauderdale and also on Mar. 5-7 at Newberry. The latter is also a Southeast Sectional. March 6-7 is also the high point of the year for our traditional archers ---The Traditional Bowhunters of Florida Championship (TBOF). This one is so much fun that some of our compound shooters put away the wheel bows for this weekend and shoot stick and string. If you are interested in attending any of these shoots see one of the Board members for information. The Club Championship will be on March 20-21. As usual the Championship will consist of a 14 target Field Round, a 20 target 3-D Round, and a 20 yard NFAA Round. The ranges will be open for competition at nine on Saturday and Sunday. All three rounds can be shot in one day but most will probably want to spread their shooting over two days. Different bows can be used for the three events as long as they are the same style. The Rounds can be shot in any order. There must be a minimum of three to a group and there will be double scoring. The winner in each Round, by style, will receive one point, the runner-up two, etc. The archer with the lowest points in each style will be the Club Champion in that style. The Club Championship is only open to club members but the 3-D range can be shot on Sunday by non members and club members who do not want to shoot the entire Championship. Misc. Please read the Range Rules carefull advance.
